The Game UN:Me: A Psychological Thriller Merging Survival Horror and Among Us Gameplay

The recent Day of the Devs digital showcase revealed several fascinating future games, but one especially has captured the imagination: UN:Me. Created by Historia and Shueisha Games, this single-player experience seems to blend the oppressive atmosphere of a Silent Hill game with the suspicion-driven core of Among Us.

"This is a unique experience where a girl harboring several human souls within her needs to flee from a maze of the mind," explains developer Yasukazu Kawai.

Stepping Into a Fractured Mind

In UN:Me, players assume the role of an unnamed female protagonist seeming to be of high school age. Inside her exist four distinct personas, each with their own anxieties and motivations. These souls can take over at will, releasing their innermost phobias upon her without warning.

Based on showcased footage, much of the narrative takes place within a creepy medical facility, while additional clips depict the main character exploring a desolate chapel.

A World of Personal Horror

"What are you afraid of? What causes you uneasy?" poses creative lead Shun Sasaki. "Heights. Small rooms. People in power. Things that seem trivial to other people can activate something primal within us. This game delves into that concept — fears that are unique to every individual."

The central mechanic involves managing the persona that surfaces at a particular time. However, these souls will switch involuntarily as you play. While exploring, each soul's fears become amplified and attack the girl one after another. As the persona changes, so does the particular terror the player encounters.

Unsettling Visuals and a Fatal Choice

At first glance, UN:Me shares striking visual similarities with the Silent Hill series. The hospital is filled with orderlies who all share the same face, with disturbingly broad grins. Patients in the lobby have large blooms growing from their heads are. Flowers are an ever-present theme, contrasting natural beauty with supernatural dread.

Yet, UN:Me introduces a unique mechanic. Players must determine which of the four souls inhabiting the protagonist is the "real" one. "All four personas claims that the physical form belongs to them," notes a creator. "Throughout the game, you must determine who is authentic."

Once players believes a persona is fake, they must eliminate it. But, because every entity can lie or obfuscate the truth, it is incredibly simple to make a mistake.

"Perhaps you've already eliminated the real [soul] with your own hands," a voice suggests. "The final entity standing might be a fraud. Either way, your decisions are irreversible."

UN:Me does not yet have a publicly announced launch window, but it is available to wishlist on digital storefronts.
