Arsenal's manager feels assured that his team can persist in handling with fitness issues following disclosing that forward Kai Havertz remains out for several more weeks.

Extended Absence for German Star

The German forward has been sidelined since August due to an operation on his knee. Originally slated to return sooner, Arteta explained the player faced a hurdle when stepping up his rehabilitation and could not progress “the required stage.”

“We learned, and we were able to put together a squad that is far more dependable and has more options,” Arteta said.

Selection Dilemma for Brentford Clash

This news creates a dilemma for Wednesday’s home game against Brentford. The manager needs to decide between sticking with Mikel Merino, who got a goal in an unfamiliar forward role against Chelsea, or bringing back Viktor Gyökeres, who came back after a fitness issue in the latter stages. Long-term absentee Gabriel Jesus is in contention following a lengthy absence.

Defensive Concerns Linger

Further fitness issues surround defender William Saliba and attacker Leandro Trossard, who both missed the weekend encounter. Consequently, new recruits Cristhian Mosquera and Piero Hincapié are likely to keep their places in the backline for the table-toppers.

Arteta believes the £250m spend on squad depth during the summer has resulted in a much stronger position to deal with such absences.

Squad Depth Key to Title Challenge

Questioned if a larger pool of players was helping their league challenge, his response was positive. “Indeed, because this season has seen more issues in the attacking line, and now the problems with the defence,” he noted.

“History has shown us that we have to use players in alternative spots, and they need to be prepared to adapt to new tasks if we want to compete at the highest level. And the case of Mikel is probably the prime illustration.”

Arteta's Support for Frustrated Star

Commenting on the delay highlighted by national team coach Julian Nagelsmann, Arteta provided further detail. “He was doing everything. He could not go to the next level and now the signs are like we have solved that issue.”

The manager conveyed his keenness to see him return. “Everyone is eager to have him. Honestly, Havertz is someone that, personally, I love so much for his contributions to the team, but his personality, his attitude. I observe his frustration on the sidelines.”
