England Coach Southee Uncertain on The Ashes Availability

Tim Southee

The bowler's last Test for the Kiwis was against the English side in December 2024.

England fast-bowling advisor Southee is still working through what his involvement will be during the forthcoming Ashes series in Australia.

The former Kiwi seamer is expected to be present for the first Test due to his involvement in the ILT20 tournament, which begins on December 2 in the UAE.

Southee, 36, assumed a role as England's fast bowling consultant in the warmer months after taking 391 wickets in 107 Tests for the Kiwis.

Commenting as England's squad for the first of three T20 matches against the Kiwis was named, he stated of his availability: "We're still working through that at the moment.

"We will determine the outcome over the coming days."

English bowling legend Broad had stated the Australian side as their "weakest squad since 2010", but the consultant was in no uncertainty over what to expect during the contest, which begins on 21 November.

"In my view there's ever a bad Australian cricket team," Southee remarked.

"The team's attention is squarely on what we're trying to do. I think the quality of [England's] side that's going out to the host country is excellent.

"It ought to be an thrilling encounter, that series. Not just [are|do] fans from both nations eagerly anticipate it, I believe the whole cricket world is."

However, before England travel to the city of Perth for the first Ashes match, they face the Kiwis in Christchurch on this Saturday.
